Westview United Methodist Church Preschool Program
Personnel Policies and Procedures

Goal:  The Purpose of the Preschool Program ministry is to provide the community with a Christian environment, where their young children can grow.  We are offering a partnership with the parents of our community to help raise their children to know of Jesus and His love.

Staff Relations:  All teachers will report to the program’s director.

 Payroll and Benefits:

  1. Each staff member will be paid on the last working day that falls on or after the 15th of each month and the 30th of each month.

  2. Staff members may receive 1 sick day per semester. These days should be used for personal illness or illness of your child, or for appointments that cannot be scheduled at any other time.

  3. Be aware that if the preschool must close due to inclement weather, staff members will receive pay for the first two inclement weather days but will not be paid for subsequent days.

  Responsibilities:

  1. To maintain a Christian environment and provide activities which will promote a child’s mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual growth.

  2. To maintain a Christian attitude at all times, when dealing with children, parents, and coworkers.

  3. To report to work everyday on time.  Unless the schedule changes for a holiday or inclement weather, scheduled hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm. You must notify the director as soon as possible (preferably at least the night before) if you expect to be absent so that a substitute teacher may be contacted.

 General Safety:

Emergency drills (evacuation, lock down and tornado) will each be practiced at least once per semester.  These drills will be referred to by the staff as E1, F2, L3 and T4 meaning evacuation, fire, lockdown and tornado respectively. This is done to minimize the fear that children may associate with some of these words.  Diagrams displaying emergency exit routes will be displayed inside each classroom.  Staff members will be able to communicate with each other throughout the day with radios.

Students who have food or other allergies will have a listing of their allergies inside their classrooms at all times.  It will be the director’s responsibility to notify a new employee or substitute teacher of a student’s allergies in the absence of that student’s regular teacher.

Preschool staff members will maintain current CPR/first aid certificates of course completion.

Grievance Procedures:

Staff members may file any grievance first with the director.  If a satisfactory result cannot be resolved, the employee may then request arbitration with the director, the Preschool Committee, and the Pastor of Westview United Methodist Church.

Grounds for Termination:

  1. Staff members should refrain from committing any infraction of rules and regulations listed in parent handbook or from failing to meet stated expectations and responsibilities.  All teachers will receive a written notice of any infraction within one week of violation.  Second violation will be grounds for termination.

  • Physical or mental abuse to a child, parent, or co-worker.
